Ballot Access Requirements
Ballot access requirements to run for Congress AS AN INDEPENDENT in New Mexico:
The petition for an independent candidate for the United States House of Representatives must be signed by at least 3 percent of the total number of votes cast for governor in the previous general election in that particular congressional district.
The petition for an independent candidate for the state legislature must be signed by at least 3 percent of the total number of votes cast for governor in the respective legislative district.
All requisite paperwork must be filed with the proper filing official before 5:00 p.m. on the 21st day following the primary election.
